Description

Experience a tropical paradise in every bite with these irresistible Hawaiian sweet rolls filled with juicy pineapple and coconut, then topped with a luscious glaze and crunchy macadamia nuts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Rolls
  • 12 King’s Hawaiian Original Hawaiian Sweet Rolls
  • 1/4 Cup Unsalted Butter – room temp
  • 20 ounces Dole Pineapple Slices – completely drained, cubed or crushed
  • 1/4 Cup Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup Sweetened Flaked Coconut
  • 2 Tablespoons Melted Butter
  • Glaze
  • 1/2 Cup Powdered Sugar
  • 23 teaspoons Dole Pineapple Juice
  • 2 Tablespoons Sweetened Coconut
  • 1/4 Cup Chopped Mauna Loa Dry Roasted Macadamia Nuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven – Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures that the oven will be at the perfect temperature when you’re ready to bake the rolls, allowing for even cooking and proper rising.
  2. Prepare the rolls – Using a serrated knife, carefully slice the King’s Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally, keeping the rolls connected. Spray an 8×8 baking pan with nonstick cooking spray, then place the bottom half of the rolls in the pan, cut side up.
  3. Create the filling – In a bowl, combine the room temperature butter, drained and cubed pineapple, sugar, and sweetened flaked coconut. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated. This tropical filling will infuse the rolls with sweet, fruity flavor.
  4. Assemble the rolls – Spread the pineapple-coconut mixture evenly across the bottom halves of the rolls, making sure to cover the entire surface. Then, place the top halves of the rolls onto the filling, creating a sandwich.
  5. Bake to perfection – Place the assembled rolls in the preheated oven and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the tops turn a light golden brown. The heat will melt the filling and create a delicious, gooey center while warming the rolls.
  6. Apply butter coating – Remove the rolls from the oven and immediately brush the tops with the 2 tablespoons of melted butter. This adds richness and gives the rolls a beautiful shine.
  7. Prepare and add glaze – Mix the powdered sugar, pineapple juice, and 2 tablespoons of sweetened coconut to create a smooth glaze. Drizzle this mixture over the warm rolls, spreading it to cover the tops completely. The warmth from the rolls will help the glaze to set slightly.
  8. Garnish and serve – Sprinkle the chopped macadamia nuts over the glazed rolls. Serve warm for the best flavor and texture experience. The contrast between the soft, sweet rolls and the crunchy macadamia nuts creates a delightful eating experience.

Notes

  • For an extra tropical flavor, you can add 1/2 teaspoon of coconut extract to the filling mixture.
  • These rolls can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated before baking. Just add 2-3 minutes to the baking time if cooking from cold.
  • For a less sweet version, reduce the sugar in the filling to 2 tablespoons.
  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days at room temperature or 4 days in the refrigerator.
