Ingredients
Scale
For the Beef:
- 1 lb ground beef or beef strips
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/3 cup BBQ sauce
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the Taco Sauce:
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon BBQ sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
For Assembly:
- 6 soft taco tortillas
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- Chopped fresh cilantro (optional)
Instructions
- Sauté the Garlic
In a large skillet, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes. Be careful not to let the garlic burn, as it can turn bitter. - Cook the Beef
Add the ground beef or beef strips to the skillet. Cook until browned and fully cooked through, breaking it apart with a spatula if using ground beef. If there’s excess fat, drain it off to keep the tacos from becoming greasy. - Add the Sauce
Once the beef is cooked, stir in the honey, BBQ sauce, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well to ensure the beef is thoroughly coated in the sauce. Let the mixture simmer for 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken slightly. - Make the Taco Sauce
While the beef is simmering, prepare the taco sauce. In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, honey, BBQ sauce, and smoked paprika. Whisk until smooth and well combined. Set aside for later use. - Assemble the Tacos
To assemble the tacos, warm the tortillas in a skillet or microwave until pliable. Spoon the beef mixture onto each tortilla, then drizzle the prepared taco sauce generously over the top. Sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese and finish with fresh cilantro, if desired. Fold the tacos and serve immediately.
Notes
- For an extra kick, add a dash of hot sauce or cayenne pepper to the beef mixture.
- Try toasting your tortillas on a dry skillet for 30 seconds per side to enhance their flavor and texture.
- You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
- The taco sauce can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- For a crunchier texture, consider adding diced onions or shredded lettuce to your tacos.
