Chocolate Salami

  • Author: Eliana
  • Total Time: 4 hours 20 minutes (including chilling time)
  • Yield: 12 servings 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

Indulgent and no-bake, this chocolate salami is a delightful treat that combines crunchy biscuits, toasted hazelnuts, and rich chocolate into a sliceable dessert log dusted with powdered sugar for an elegant presentation.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (180g) digestive biscuits/vanilla wafers
  • ¾ cup (70-80g) toasted hazelnuts (or your favorite nuts), coarsely chopped
  • 1 cup + 2 tablespoons (200g) dark chocolate
  • ¼ cup + 2 tablespoons (90g) unsalted butter
  • 6 tablespoons (90 ml) whole milk
  • A splash of alcohol (Kahlua, Amaretto, brandy, or rum), optional
  • Powdered sugar, for coating

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Biscuit Base: Place biscuits in a large ziplock bag and crush them using a rolling pin until you have small and coarse crumbs. Transfer crumbs to a large bowl and stir in the chopped toasted hazelnuts. The mixture should have varied texture for an authentic salami appearance.
  2. Create the Chocolate Mixture: In a medium bowl, place chocolate and butter. Heat in the microwave or in a double boiler until completely melted and smooth. Add milk and alcohol (if using) and stir until fully incorporated. The mixture should be glossy and smooth.
  3. Combine and Shape: Add the chocolate mixture to the crumb mixture and mix thoroughly until all dry ingredients are evenly coated. Spread the mixture onto parchment paper or plastic wrap and shape it into a log using a spatula or spoon. Roll up the paper and wrap it like candy, twisting the ends to secure.
  4. Chill Until Firm: Place the wrapped log in the refrigerator for several hours until completely firm. This allows the chocolate to set and the flavors to meld together.
  5. Finish and Serve: After chilling, remove the log from the paper, dust generously with powdered sugar on all sides, and remove any excess sugar with a brush or your fingertips. Slice into rounds and serve for an elegant dessert presentation.

Notes

  • For a more authentic appearance, you can roll the log gently on a countertop before chilling to create a more cylindrical shape.
  • The optional alcohol adds depth of flavor but can be omitted for a family-friendly version.
  • Traditional Italian chocolate salami often includes egg yolks, but this no-cook version skips them for food safety.
  • For a festive twist, add dried fruits like cherries or cranberries to the mixture.
