Chocolate Chip Pan Chewies

  • Author: Eliana

Description

These irresistible chocolate chip pan chewies combine the best of cookies and brownies – a buttery, chewy texture with pockets of melted chocolate. Perfect for sharing or indulging in a sweet treat any day of the week!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a 9×9-inch baking pan with nonstick spray. This ensures your chewies won’t stick to the pan and will bake at the perfect temperature for that ideal chewy texture.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a medium bowl, stir together melted butter, brown sugar, vanilla, and egg until well combined. The melted butter helps create that dense, chewy texture while brown sugar adds moisture and a rich caramel flavor.
  3. Add Dry Ingredients: Add flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda and stir to combine. Mix just until no dry streaks remain to avoid developing too much gluten, which could make your chewies tough.
  4. Add Chocolate and Bake: Stir in chocolate chips and pour into prepared pan. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the edges are set but the center is still slightly soft. The chewies will continue to set as they cool.

Notes

  • For an extra indulgent treat, try using a mix of milk, dark, and white chocolate chips.
  • The chewies are done when the edges are golden brown but the center still looks slightly underbaked – they’ll continue cooking from residual heat.
  • These can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
  • For a flavor variation, try adding 1/2 cup of chopped nuts or dried fruit.
