Description

These Caramelitas are an indulgent dessert packed with gooey caramel, melty chocolate, and a buttery oat crust. The perfect treat for any occasion, they’re rich, chewy, and incredibly easy to make!


Ingredients

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 bag soft caramels (about 11 oz)
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

Instructions

1. Preheat and Prepare

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease an 8×8-inch baking pan and set aside.

2. Make the Caramel Sauce

  • In a small saucepan, combine soft caramels and heavy cream.
  • Cook over medium heat, stirring continuously until the caramel melts and the mixture is smooth. Set aside.

3. Prepare the Oat Crust

  • In a mixing bowl, combine melted butter, brown sugar, flour, oats, and baking soda.
  • Mix until well combined.
  • Press half of the oat mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.

4. Bake the Bottom Layer

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes.
  • Remove from the oven and sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the crust.
  • Pour the caramel sauce evenly over the chocolate chips.

5. Add the Top Layer & Bake Again

  • Sprinkle the remaining oat mixture over the caramel layer, covering it evenly.
  • Return the dish to the oven and bake for another 20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.

6. Cool & Serve

  • Allow the bars to cool completely before cutting into squares.
  • Serve and enjoy!
