Description

These Baked Cheese Buns are soft, fluffy, and filled with gooey melted cheese. Perfect for breakfast, snacks, or as a side to your favorite meals, these buns are easy to make and incredibly satisfying.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cups grated cheese (mozzarella, cheddar, or a combination)

Instructions

1. Activate the Yeast

  • In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast.
  • Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.

2. Make the Dough

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour and salt.
  • Make a well in the center and add yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg.
  • Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

3. First Rise

  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

4. Shape the Buns

  • Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces.
  • Flatten each piece, place a tablespoon of grated cheese in the center, and fold the dough around it to form a bun.

5. Second Rise

  • Arrange the buns on a parchment-lined baking sheet, cover, and let them rise for 30 minutes.

6. Bake the Buns

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Brush the tops with milk or beaten egg for a golden finish.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown and the cheese is oozing out.

7. Serve and Enjoy

  • Allow the buns to cool slightly before serving for the best melty texture.
  • Enjoy them warm on their own or as a side to soups, salads, or main dishes.
