Description

Quick and delicious cinnamon-sugar coated apple pie bombs made easy in the air fryer! These irresistible treats feature a sweet apple filling wrapped in flaky biscuit dough for a bite-sized dessert that’s ready in minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ¾ cup (150 grams) granulated sugar
  • 3 teaspoons apple pie spice
  • 1 can Pillsbury Grand biscuits (8-count)
  • 1 cup (243 grams) apple pie filling, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ cup (113 grams) unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Sugar and Spice Mixture Preparation: In a medium-sized bowl, combine the granulated sugar with apple pie spice. Stir the mixture until well integrated and set aside. This will become the sweet, aromatic coating that gives these bombs their delicious exterior.
  2. Biscuit Preparation: Open the can of Pillsbury Grand biscuits and carefully separate each biscuit into two layers by peeling them apart. Flatten each layer into a circle approximately 4 inches in diameter, yielding a total of 16 circles. Make sure to flatten them evenly to ensure proper cooking.
  3. Filling Mixture: In a separate small bowl, combine the finely chopped apple pie filling with cinnamon. Stir the ingredients together until they are thoroughly mixed. The smaller you chop the apple pieces, the easier it will be to seal the bombs.
  4. Assembling the Bombs: Place approximately 1 tablespoon of the apple pie filling mixture in the center of each biscuit circle. Carefully fold the edges of the biscuit over the filling, pinching them together to seal completely. Gently roll each filled biscuit into a ball shape, ensuring the filling is completely enclosed to prevent leakage during cooking.
  5. Air Fryer Preparation: Spray the basket of the air fryer with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking. This will help ensure easy removal after cooking.
  6. Cooking Process: Place the prepared balls into the air fryer basket, spacing them about 2 inches apart to allow for even cooking. Spray the tops of the balls lightly with cooking spray. Cook in the air fryer at 350°F (177°C) for 8-9 minutes, or until they turn golden brown. You may need to cook in batches depending on the size of your air fryer.
  7. Finishing Touches: After cooking, remove the apple pie bombs from the air fryer. Dip each one in the melted unsalted butter, ensuring a thorough coating. Subsequently, roll each butter-coated bomb in the prepared sugar and apple pie spice mixture, ensuring an even layer of coating for maximum flavor.
  8. Serving: Serve these Apple Pie Bombs immediately while warm for the best experience, though they can also be enjoyed at room temperature. The contrast between the crispy, sweet exterior and the warm, gooey apple filling makes these treats irresistible.

Notes

  • For best results, make sure to seal the bombs well to prevent filling from leaking during cooking.
  • These can be made ahead and reheated in the air fryer for 2-3 minutes at 320°F.
  • Try adding a small piece of caramel candy to the filling for a caramel apple variation.
  • If you don’t have apple pie spice, you can make your own with 2 teaspoons cinnamon, ½ teaspoon nutmeg, and ½ teaspoon allspice.
  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Reheat briefly in the air fryer to restore crispness.
