Description

Deliciously fluffy gluten-free cheddar biscuits made quickly in the air fryer. These savory treats feature garlic, parsley, and melted cheese for a perfect side to any meal or standalone snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups gluten-free all-purpose flour (like Bob’s Red Mill or King Arthur’s)
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • Wet Ingredients
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • ⅓ cup melted butter
  • ¾ cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • For Topping
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley

Instructions

  1. Combine Dry Ingredients: Mix the flour, baking powder, garlic powder, dried parsley, and salt in a medium bowl. Whisk them together thoroughly to ensure even distribution of the leavening agents and seasonings throughout the flour.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate medium bowl, combine the buttermilk, beaten egg, and melted butter. Stir until the wet ingredients are well incorporated, creating a smooth, creamy mixture.
  3. Form the Dough: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until it forms a slightly wet, sticky dough. Be careful not to overmix. Gently fold in the shredded cheddar cheese until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  4. Prepare for Air Frying: Preheat the air fryer to 375°F. Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. If using a liner, place it in the basket first, then spray it. Use a 3-tablespoon (about ¼ cup) ice cream scoop to portion the dough into the air fryer basket in an even layer. You should be able to fit 4-5 biscuits at a time depending on the size of your air fryer.
  5. Air Fry the Biscuits: Close the air fryer and cook for 7-8 minutes until the biscuits are golden and cooked through. If the biscuits are not fully cooked after 8 minutes, cook them for 1-2 more minutes. Continue cooking in batches until all the biscuits are done.
  6. Apply Butter Topping: Once the biscuits are done cooking, melt the remaining butter and mix it with garlic powder, dried parsley, and a pinch of salt. Brush this flavorful butter mixture over the biscuits while they are still warm.
  7. Serve: Serve the biscuits warm for the best flavor and texture. They’re perfect as a side dish or a standalone snack.

Notes

  • To ensure maximum fluffiness, avoid overmixing the dough as this can make the biscuits tough.
  • These biscuits can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days, though they’re best eaten fresh.
  • For a dairy-free version, you can substitute the butter with coconut oil and use a plant-based cheese alternative.
  • Make sure your gluten-free flour blend contains xanthan gum for the best texture, or add 1/4 teaspoon if your blend doesn’t include it.
  • You can customize these biscuits by adding herbs like rosemary, thyme, or chives.
